BEAUTY SECRET: Why didn't I share this sooner.

Last year when I was in Greece I ran out of Latisse; the solution that makes your eyelashes grow. I went to the local pharmacy here in town and asked if they had any. The pharmacist took a look at the ingredients on my Latisse bottle, went to her little book and then handed me a box called Lumigan. She took the tiny bottle out of the box and showed me that it was exactly the same only Lumigan is used for "pressure in the eye", also known as glaucoma, but that a side effect of it was eyelash grown of up to 50%. It's even made by the same company as Latisse: Allergan.  I was skeptical but decided to take it and give it a shot. When she rang me up it was about 12 euros, under $20.00. I couldn't believe it! I pay $120 - $140 dollars for Latisse in the states. Long story short, I used it for the remainder of my time in Greece and noticed a HUGE difference. It was just like Latisse if not better and a FRACTION of the cost..
After doing some research today I found this interesting article comparing the two, and funny enough- Lumigan came first, Latisse is a re-branded version of Lumigan and just applied differently.

( FYI- when using Lumigan, I apply it the same way I apply my Latisse )

"And if you have glaucoma, you’ll be killing two birds with one stone. Turns out Latisse is actually a re-branded version of Lumigan, the anti-glaucoma drug made by Allergan, which sells both products (as well as other aesthetic product offerings included Botox and breast implants).  And, as with Lumigan, using Latisse presents some possible side effects, including irritated or dry eyes, red eyelids and darkening of the skin around the eyes. As well as much more menacing ones.

While Latisse and Lumigan are the same thing, there are important difference in how they are used. Latisse users are directed to carefully apply the liquid to the eyelash. Lumigan users put drops of the drug right into the eye."
So this time in Greece I decided to stock up on this God sent potion being that it only cost max $20 compared to $140.00 in California, and thought I would share this secret with you. I don't know if it will cost the same in the states or not or if you can get it over the internet but it's worth knowing about.

**Check with your doctor before using any of these products**

  4. WOW thanks for the heads-up on Lumigan! I've been unable to decide whether I want to commit to Latisse or lash extensions. I'm nervous about the possible side-effects associated with Latisse, but all of my friends who use it love it and haven't experienced any change in eye color/dark pigmentation. Have you had lash extensions done (the ones that last up to 6 weeks)? Do you prefer Latisse? Love you blog...I'm Greek-American and haven't been back for two summers ... I'm dying! But love your pics!! <3 -Christina

  8. There's also another generic Latisse brand I've been using called Careprost. I couldn't get Lumigan so I ordered Careprost from this website called alldaychemist. Its only 10 dollars a bottle but the shipping is crazy (25)!! It's worked wonders for me as well :) Enjoy your time in Greece! You look beautiful as always!

    1. I was just going to comment and tell her about Careprost! I've been using it for a while and my lashes are insane! I don't apply it to my bottom lashes, but I guess it gets down there somehow and they have grown so much that I actually had to trim them the other day!

  29. Amazing photos thanks for sharing. But more importantly, thanks for sharing the "heads up" on the Lumigan. I wonder if I'll be able to get it in Italy? Also, don't know if you remember, but I inquired about your gray t-shirt... Well I went to the Intermix website and to the Saks website. No go for an Anlo shirt.

  30. Jenni!! I love the pics, looks so peaceful. My hubby's dad is from Greece spoke greek and everything and his mom is from London. They moved to Canada then to the United States. My husband loves Greece. Anyways he was a chemist in the past before becoming a doc. I'm a Latisse user myself and you are right it can get expensive. Here in Fl each bottle runs $120 plus tax :-/ and they are such small bottles. Anyways I passed him the information on Lumigan because this would be an awesome alternative for me as well, he is doing research on it says to make sure we are completely safe with this stuff. I found it starting $17.99 online from Canada and so on. Yippe Thanks for Sharing such a great find! I'll send you whatever he tells me. (Health nut over here lol)

  31. Update: We got green light!!! My hubby says we'll be dumb to purchase latisse ever again when it's 4 time the cost of Lumigan and it's the same thing. Allergen knew they had to do that because insurance companies were not going to pay for people to "grow their lashes". The only drawback is we need to find the special applicators? However here is a great alternative I found online haha

  67. Jen-

i have been a certified ophthalmic assistant for over five years now, working in a eye surgeons office and surgery center. I also have used both latisse and lumigan myself. lumigan and latisse are the same drug. lumigan was used in patient with glaucoma to lower eye pressure (dropped directly into eye) and when docs/patients started noticing how long their eyelashes grew as a side affect, alcon decided to market the same drug as a cosmetic enhancement product (applied to the lash line to reduce other side affects such as permanent darkening of the iris). the reason for the cost difference? think of it as generic vs. brand name. technically, lumigan is a brand name (with no generic) but it is a necessary drug for patient with serious eye diseases, while latisse is an optional drug for enhancement of the eyelashes. as far as getting lumigan prescribed... i dont know a single ophthalmologist who would prescribe it because the majority of them do not want to waste their time with individuals seeking optional improvements when they have thousands of patients becoming more blind every day. i also think that drug companies provide significant incentive for docs who would be regularly prescribing latisse, so they do not prescribe the pseudo-generic, lumigan.

personally, i would never order a controlled drug off of the internet. these are your eyes in question and you only have two--not something i want to screw around with. Lumigan is available safely without a prescription in many other countries, however. yes, america's drug companies are capitalizing on those seeking optional enhancements. unfortunately that probably wont change :(

also, latisse/lumigan has been used successfully off-label to thicken eyebrow hairs. rogaine has not been scientifically proven to do this.

  82. Hello Jennifer. I just discovered your blog and I absolutely love it! If you could help me, I would appreciate it. I have been to Hydra, about 2 years ago and I'm going back this summer. There is a wonderful store. It sells jewelry, clothing and handbags. It's sort of middle to the end as you walk the cobblestone path. It's got locations in Hydra, New York, Tokyo, I believe London and Hong Kong (among other places). Since you've been to Hydra so many times, you probably know what boutique I'm speaking of. I wanted to order something online from them. If you can remember the name, please mention this. Thanks!

  83. I just discovered your blog and I totally LOVE how down to earth you are! Let the haters hate- they are totally just jealous. Continue to do what your doing & never forget where you came from and you'll be perfectly fine.

Everything happens for a reason! You were meant to be with Alki ;)
